EMPYREAN’s and IDEKO Research Center’s use case and objectives were presented at the IDEKO’s stand on the BIEMH – Bienal Internacional de Máquina – Herramienta 2024, Spain’s leading industrial trade fair and an international leader in advanced manufacturing.

The EMPYREAN project participated on June 6, 2024, in the EUCloudEdgeIoT part 2 webinar on Future-proof solutions for cognition-enabled cloud computing, joining other projects researching cognitive orchestration across heterogenous and federated IoT-edge-cloud continuum. In the webinar were also ACES, DECICE, MLSysOps, SovereignEdge.EU and MYRTUS Horizon Europe projects. Panagiotis Kokkinos from ICCS presented EMPYREAN’s objective and vision to develop novel mechanisms and technology solutions for trustworthy, cognitive, and AI-driven collaboration Associations of IoT devices and edge resources for efficient data processing across the IoT-edge-cloud continuum. We are excited to announce that EMPYREAN will participate as a panelist in the Cognitive Computing Continuum Panel titled “Connecting 40 Billion IoT Devices with 200ZB of Data in the Cloud” at the upcoming Digital Transformation Summit, scheduled to take place from June 24th to 28th, 2024, on Madeira Island, Portugal. This panel session will bring together leading researchers and practitioners to discuss the dynamic connectivity of edge-cloud resources and the advancement of intelligence and automation within the edge-cloud continuum. The panel is supported by various European Commission-funded projects in the area of edge-cloud computing, including those from the CL4-2023-DATA-01-04 call. The session will feature introductory presentations from key projects, followed by a panel discussion on thematic topics such as the dynamic discovery and connectivity of heterogeneous resources in the edge-cloud continuum, dynamic deployment of applications and services, and the orchestration of distributed resources. EMPYREAN’s vision and contributions are well-aligned with the panel’s focus. We aim to develop novel technology solutions that enable trustworthy, cognitive, and AI-driven collaborative associations of IoT devices and edge resources for efficient data processing across the edge-cloud continuum. EMPYREAN joined the Cognitive Computing Continuum cluster within the EUCloudEdgeIoT (EUCEI) community. This cluster, comprised of five groundbreaking projects, including EMPYREAN, is set to revolutionize how we perceive and harness intelligence across the computing continuum. The Five Projects: EMPYREAN: Building collaborative collectives of computing and storage resources, known as Associations, that dynamically cooperate in a secure and trusted manner via a sophisticated coordination framework. INTEND: Exploring the latest AI breakthroughs to bring the next-level human-like intelligence into the cognitive continuum, allowing the continuum to adapt, think, and talk like humans. MYRTUS: Unlocking the new living dimension of CPS, embracing the principles of the TransContinuum Initiative, integrating edge, fog, and cloud computing platforms through AI-based orchestration of collaborative distributed and decentralised components. HYPER-AI: Developing mid-tier and cloud-edge self-managed clusters for optimized execution of highly data-intensive applications. ENACT: Developing cutting-edge technologies to realize a Cognitive Computing Continuum (CCC) capable of optimal resource management and dynamic scaling.   EUCloudEdgeIoT.eu coordinates a portfolio of projects in the CEI Computing Continuum to ensure consistent exploitation of these projects outcomes to help regain European competitiveness in core internet infrastructures.
