EMPYREAN project organized its second plenary meeting on July 2 & 3, 2024, in Madrid, Spain, with all 11 partners in attendance.  The meeting offered a great opportunity for collaboration among partners. The progress achieved was presented, and the project’s next steps, focusing on architecture design and requirements analysis, were discussed.  The team made significant progress, laying a strong foundation for the next phases of our project. 

Our technical coordinator, Panagiotis Kokkinos from ICCS, represented EMPYREAN at the final EUCloudEdgeIoT Open Continuum Conference, which took place in The Claridge, Brussels, Belgium, on June 18, 2024. The event focused on the value of the EUCloudEdgeIoT.eu (EUCEI) community research for the industry, highlighting the latest advancements and results of the Open Continuum CSA and the more than 50 research and innovation actions that it has supported. EMPYREAN participated in Research Panel #5, “Cognitive Computing,” along with other speakers from the “Cognitive Computing Continuum: CL4-2023-DATA-01-04” call. During the event, EMPYREAN presented its vision, objectives, and innovations.

EMPYREAN was honored to participate as a panelist in the session titled “Cognitive Computing Continuum: Connecting 40 Billion IoT Devices with 200ZB of Data in the Cloud” during the Digital Transformation Summit held on June 26th, 2024, on Madeira Island, Portugal. During the session, EMPYREAN presented its vision, objectives, and innovations, highlighting its contributions to the field. The event was a highly successful clustering opportunity, bringing together projects from the “Cognitive Computing Continuum: CL4-2023-DATA-01-04” call, including ENACT, INTENT, and Swarmchestrate. Representatives from these research projects engaged in meaningful discussions about the latest advancements and challenges in developing a trustworthy, AI-driven, autonomous, and cognitive computing continuum. The focus was on efficient data processing in hyper-distributed and dynamic applications, marking significant progress in the field.

EMPYREAN will participate in the upcoming webinar “Get to know the research initiatives about Cognitive Computing Continuum: Intelligence and automation for more efficient data processing”, on October 8th 2024 (11:00-12:30) organized by HYPER-AI. It is a joint webinar to discover the innovative work of six cutting-edge projects funded by the HORIZON Europe call “Cognitive Computing Continuum: Intelligence and Automation for More Efficient Data Processing”: HYPER-AI, INTEND, EMPYREAN, ENACT, MYRTUS, and Swarmchestrate. This joint webinar will highlight the collaborative efforts and breakthroughs in the integration of the IoT-Edge-Cloud continuum, AI-driven resource management, and hyper-distributed computing ecosystems. EMPYREAN’s and IDEKO Research Center’s use case and objectives were presented at the IDEKO’s stand on the BIEMH – Bienal Internacional de Máquina – Herramienta 2024, Spain’s leading industrial trade fair and an international leader in advanced manufacturing.

The EMPYREAN project participated on June 6, 2024, in the EUCloudEdgeIoT part 2 webinar on Future-proof solutions for cognition-enabled cloud computing, joining other projects researching cognitive orchestration across heterogenous and federated IoT-edge-cloud continuum. In the webinar were also ACES, DECICE, MLSysOps, SovereignEdge.EU and MYRTUS Horizon Europe projects. Panagiotis Kokkinos from ICCS presented EMPYREAN’s objective and vision to develop novel mechanisms and technology solutions for trustworthy, cognitive, and AI-driven collaboration Associations of IoT devices and edge resources for efficient data processing across the IoT-edge-cloud continuum.
